FIAT CHRYSLER LAUNCHES ABARTH 595

AUG 2015- Italian-American auto major Fiat Chrysler Automobiles on Tuesday launched its premium sports hatchback Abarth 595 Competizione priced at Rs 29.85 lakh in India. The company will also launch a new model, Punto Abarth around the festive season as it looks to expand product portfolio in the Indian market. Abarth 595 Competizione is known for its sheer performance, iconic style and rich heritage. With this launch, we are hoping to bring this same legacy to our Indian customers and are confident that Abarth would provide a superior driving experience.



100 CITIES TO VIE IN SMART CITY CHALLENGE

AUG 2015- Vizag, Tirupati and Kakinada, chosen to represent Andhra Pradesh in the Smart City Challenge conducted by the Union Government, scored over the other cities in the state by virtue of their better performance on crucial parameters, such as JNNURM execution, basic services and online grievance redressal. These three cities were among 13 municipal corporations that submitted their proposals to the State Government hoping to represent Andhra Pradesh in the all-India competition of cities. This was stage-I of the competition, which was held within the state.



IMA DAIRY & FOOD ACQUIRES PUNE BASED HASSIA PACKAGING

AUG 2015- Italian company Industria Macchine Automatiche SPA (IMA), which provides packaging machinery, technology and services, has acquired Hassia Packaging India, a Pune-based company as part of its global acquisition of Hassia's parent OYSTAR Group. Post acquisition, Hassia Packaging will be known as IMA Dairy & Food Holding Hassia India and the deal will help both the companies to strengthen its footprint in the global packaging industry in geographies like South Asia, Southeast Asia, Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe, West Asia.



ITALIAN LUXURY CARMAKER MASERATI DRIVES INTO INDIA

JULY 2015- Italian luxury sports carmaker Maserati today announced its re-entry into the Indian market with plans to launch models priced up to Rs 2.2 crore with three new dealerships in the country. The company also has plans to launch a sports utility vehicle globally next year. Maserati had entered the country in 2011, but later stopped selling cars in the market owing to trouble with its dealer partner. Now, it plans to open three new outlets by September-end this year.



THERMAX ACQUIRES 33% STAKE IN FIRST ENERGY

JULY 2015- Thermax Ltd has bought a 33% stake in First Energy Pvt. Ltd, an alternative energy solutions company, for some Rs.20 crore. Thermax will acquire the rest of First Energy in a phased manner over the next four to six years. Thermax will pay about Rs.20 crore for the 33% stake, a person familiar with the transaction said, requesting anonymity. The company did not disclose the value of the deal. Pune-based First Energy, which focuses on consumers in commercial and home cooking market, had revenue of Rs.42 crore in 2014-15, the filing said. Its Oorja branded product uses a combination of a stove and biomass-based fuel available in pellets.



FDI IN EQUITY JUMPED 48% AFTER LAUNCH OF 'MAKE IN INDIA'

JULY 2015- Foreign direct investment (FDI) into equity jumped 48 per cent after the launch of the 'Make in India' programme. The 'Make in India' initiative, which seeks to make the country a global manufacturing hub, was launched on September 25 last year. Between October 2014 and April 2015, equity FDI rose 48 per cent, according to the ministry. Total FDI includes fresh equity inflows and reinvested earnings of foreign investors.



TITAGARH WAGONS BUYS FIREMA TRASPORTI

JULY 2015- Titagarh Wagons Ltd has acquired Firema Transporti, a troubled Italian rail design and manufacturing firm on the verge of bankruptcy, a move which would help the Indian wagon maker further bring down dependence on Indian Railways for survival and strengthen its presence in Europe. Firema, which designs and sells metro coaches and high speed trains, had been suffering due to the global economic slowdown and was put under "extraordinary administrator" in 2010, following which several aborted efforts by the administrator since 2011 to dispose off the company and its assets were undertaken.



MUMBAI GETS $772 MILLION IN VENTURE CAPITAL FUNDING

JULY 2015- For the first time since 2011, Bangalore has been surpassed by both the national capital region (NCR) and Mumbai in attracting venture capital (VC) funding. Data for the first six months of the year compiled by Venture Intelligence, a firm that tracks funding, finds that Bangalore attracted $311 million in VC funds, while Mumbai received $772 million and NCR $621 million. The second half of the year tends to attract more VC funding, and a few big funding rounds could change this order. But the interesting thing is that Mumbai has received in the six months of this year as much funding as in the whole of last year, and Chennai has already received much more.



NDMS TO SET UP STEEL PLANT IN KARNATAKA

JULY 2015- Public sector mining giant NMDC Ltd will set up a greenfield 3-million tonne per annum steel mill in Karnataka jointly with the state government at an estimated investment of Rs 18,000 crore. A special purpose vehicle (SPV) to implement this project will be set up very soon between the company and the state government.



IT SERVICES MARKET TO GROW 10.8% ANNUALLY DURING 2014-2019

JULY 2015- Riding on Digital India, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s flagship programme to increase technology adoption, the information technology (IT) services market is expected to post a compound annual growth rate of 10.8% in rupee terms between 2014 and 2019, says a report released on by research firm International Data Corp. (IDC). Digital India envisages electronic and mobile-based delivery of citizen services, financial inclusion through online platforms and spending on smart cities, among other things.



KABRA, PIOVAN FORM JOINT VENTURE IN INDIA

JULY 2015- Kabra Extrusiontechnik Ltd (KET), a part of Kolsite group, has entered into a 50:50 joint venture with Italy-based Penta SRL, a Piovan Group company that is engaged in manufacturing and distribution of auto feeding systems. This is the first joint venture established by Penta as Piovan Group has been operating through subsidiaries across the world. The JV company, which is proposed to be named as Penta Systems India Ltd, will set up a plant for manufacturing and trading (including the supply of after-sales services) of auto feeding systems for the plastics and food processing industries.



GOVT. APPROVES RS.7,529 CRORE HIGHWAY PROJECTS IN MAHARASHTRA

JUNE 2015- The government approved Rs 7,528.74-crore projects in Maharashtra for widening of stretches of NH 6 under its flagship road building programme NHDP. "The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for development of the four laning of the Amravati-Chikhli, Chikhli-Fagne and Fagne-Gujarat/Maharashtra border sections of National Highway-6 in Maharashtra,"
