TWL BAGS ORDER FROM ITALIAN FIRM

JAN 2016- Titagarh Wagons (TWL) has secured an overseas order worth 65 million euros to manufacture double-decker trains for Italian public transport company Ferrovie Nord Milano. With this order, the Calcutta-based company's order book touched Rs 2,800 crore. TWL has acquired the business of Italy's Firema Trasporti and formed a subsidiary company Titagarh Firema Adler with the former holding a 90 per cent stake.



MAHINDRAS BUY ITALIAN AUTO DESIGN FIRM PININFARINA

DEC 2015- Tech Mahindra and Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) have jointly acquired controlling stake in Italian automobile design house Pininfarina, wrapping up nearly eight months of talks that focused on valuation. The Mahindra Group companies announced that the deal was done through a special purpose vehicle (SPV), held 60% by Tech Mahindra and 40% by M&M. Pininfarina will continue to remain an independent company, listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, with Paolo Pininfarina as chairman of its board.



CEAT INKS DISTRIBUTION PACT WITH ITALY'S PIRELLE

DEC 2015- For RPG Enterprises' flagship CEAT, life's come full circle, with the second largest two-wheeler tyre company in the country forging an exclusive distribution partnership with premium Italian tyre maker, Pirelli. The latter, at one point, was the owner of CEAT - Cavi Electrici e Affini Torino SpA, as it was known before becoming popular through the abbreviated version of its name. Pirelli was earlier being distributed by Celite and Ralson in India, but the Italian tyre maker was keen on a partner with a strong distribution network.



VALAGRO OF ITALY BUYS MAJORITY STAKE IN SRIBIO

NOV 2015- Italy-based Valagro S.p.A, manufacturer of plant biostimulants and high efficiency nutritionals, has acquired a majority stake in Hyderabad-headquartered Sri Biotech Laboratories India (SriBio), paving the way for an exit for the latter’s existing investor India Agri Business Fund. Rabobank sponsored India Agri Business Fund picked up a minority stake in SriBio for Rs 45 crore in 2009.



GRP TO ENTER INTO JV PACT WITH ITALY-BASED COMPANY

NOV 2015- GRP, a leading reclaimed rubber manufacturer of India, will enter into a joint venture agreement with Marangoni SpA, Italy. The latter is a leading international company which owns technical knowledge relating to the precured retreading process used for tyres. It will now do the business of commercial vehicle tyre retreading in India. The total estimated investment will be ₹2 crore, which will be contributed equally by both the partners.



INDIA'S FOOD INDUSTRY TO BE WORTH $65 BILLION BY 2018

NOV 2015-The country's food industry is expected to grow 11 per cent annually to reach $65.4 billion (about Rs 4 lakh crore) by 2018, according to a research report. The industry is presently valued at $39.71 billion (Rs 2,476.8 billion), the joint report by IIM-Calcutta and Academic Foundation said. "Food and grocery constitute a substantial part of India's consumption accounting for around 31 per cent of the consumption basket," the report said.



ITALIAN COMPANY FERRERO ROCHER TO IVEST RS 367 CRORE IN INDIA

OCT 2015- Italian chocolate maker Ferrero Rocher to invest Rs 367 crore in India. It will be its biggest investment so far in the country, to ramp up its production facility and distribution network. Ferrero is expanding its production facility at Baramati Maharashtra and strengthening its warehousing and distribution in India.



MAGNETI MARELLI OPENS NEW AMT PLANT AT MANESAR

OCT 2015- Magneti Marelli Powertrain India, a joint venture between Magneti Marelli, the component arm of Fiat SpA of Italy, Maruti Suzuki and Suzuki Motor Company, has inaugurated its first automated manual transmission (AMT) plant at Manesar, near Gurgaon. Involving an investment of Rs 150 crore, the plant kicked off production in July this year with supplies to Maruti Suzuki having commenced since August. The start of production of the AMT kits locally is expected to bring down the long waiting periods for car models fitted with these gearboxes.



FONTANA GRUPPO AND BAGLA GROUP TIE-UP FOR FASTENERS BUSINESS IN INDIA

SEPT 2015- Fontana Gruppo, Italy and Bagla Group have signed definitive agreements to enter into a strategic partnership for the Fasteners Business in India. VESPA INDIA LAUNCHES NEW 150cc SCOOTERS

SEPT 2015- Vespa India has launched the latest version of the Vespa VXL and Vespa SXL. The biggest news is the 3-valve 150cc engines that will be offered on both the models. Cosmetic changes include new alloy wheels, broader tyres and a new part-digital instrument panel. The existing 125cc engines will be offered alongside the new 150cc variants. The Vespas were launched in the presence of their global brand ambassador, footballer Alessandro Del Piero.



HOF FURNITURE TEAMS UP WITH ITALIAN STUDIO FOR DESIGNER SOFAS

AUG 2015- Furniture maker HOF Furniture System Pvt Ltd has roped in an Italian design studio to introduce sofas designed in Italy and made in India. Italian designer Miki Astori will lead the team that will create HOF's new range of sofas, he said. These sofas will be customized according to Indian taste. HOF has taken on board National Institute of Design graduate Mann Singh, who has in the past collaborated with Italian company Driade to design a series of bowls, as product designer.



ITALIAN BRAND NAU! EYEING RS.125-CR SALES IN 5 YRARS

AUG 2015- Italian premium eyewear brand Nau! is targeting Rs 125 crore turnover in India in the next five years and is planning to open 70 outlets across the country. Nau!, which has operations in Italy and Spain, is also looking at expanding its operation to other markets such as US, Canada and other European countries in the next 1-2 years. Trinity Group, which is master franchisee for Nau! in India, said it will focus on metro cities to open Nau! outlets.
