BUDGET PROPOSES NEW RS 8,000-CRORE DAIRY INDUSTRY FUND

FEB 2017- The dairy industry is awaiting the fine print of the proposed Rs 8,000-crore Dairy Processing and Infrastructure Development Fund to be set up under the NABARD. In his Budget speech, FM Arun Jaitley has said the fund, with an initial corpus of Rs 2,000 crore and to be quadrupled in three years, would be used to enable expansion of milk processing capacity in the country. But there are no further details, including in the expenditure budget statement of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries or even the Department of Financial Services.



INDIAN E-COMMERCE MARKET TO TOUCH $50-55 BILLION BY 2021

FEB 2017- E-Commerce market is expected to be at $50-55 billion by 2021 from the current $6-8 billion, according to a recent report. The report by Retailers Association of India and Boston Consulting Group revealed that on decoding the digital opportunity, sectors that could see maximum e-commerce penetration would be consumer electronics, apparel, homeware and furniture, luxury, health, FMCG and food, and grocery. By 2025, consumer electronics would see the maximum penetration of e-commerce between 38-42 per cent compared to 13-15 per cent currently, while food and grocery could see the least growth with one to three per cent of e-commerce penetration from the current under one per cent, the report noted.

November 2016- The forthcoming Italian food fantasyland serves up pasta, wine, workshops, rides—and adult-sized tricycles. When it opens its doors in October 2017, FICO Eataly World will be unlike anything the food arena has ever seen: As part of the sprawling, 20-acre complex in Bologna, Italy, there will be 108,000 square feet of orchards, pastures, and gardens; six rides; 40 workshops; and 25 restaurants and food stalls from which to pick your pizza, pasta, and polenta. Adding to the grown-up theme park vibe, there will be 500 adult-sized tricycles with shopping baskets, designed especially for the complex by celebrated Italian bike makers Bianchi.



AN ITALIAN AFFAIR AT AMAZON FASHION WEEK

OCT 2016- Italian apparels, bags, umbrellas and shoes made a cut above statement here at the Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW) Spring- Summer 2017. FDCI (Fashion Design Council Of India) collaborated with the Italian Trade Commission to have Italy as partner country for the 28th edition of the gala. Assocalzaturifici (Italian Footwear Manufacturers' Association) and Aimpes (Italian Leather goods Manufacturers' Association) showcased collection of leather goods from 41 leading Italian brands. Francesco Pensabene, Trade Commissioner to India, Embassy of Italy, New Delhi and Sunil Sethi, President of FDCI also inaugurated the Italian Pavillion and Aperitivo.



FOOD PROCESSING SECTOR TO TREBLE IN COMING YEARS: HARSIMRAT KAUR BADAL

India's food processing industry is expected to treble in the coming years on the back of higher economic growth and government initiatives like 100 per cent FDI in marketing of food items, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. At present, the size of India's food processing industry is about Rs 1.5 lakh crore. Food processing industry will treble in the coming years... Retailers, processors and manufacturers will be the three key drivers for facilitating the growth story, said the minister.



GOVT. LINES UP RS. 324 CRORE TO SET UP FOOD PARK IN AP & MAHARASHTRA

AUG 2016- Government said it is setting up two mega food parks at a cost of Rs 324 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra under its ambitious Sagarmala project. As part of the Sagarmala Programme of the Ministry of Shipping, two mega food parks projects are being implemented in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh and southern Maharashtra by the Ministry of Food Processing. The projects are strategically situated in CEZs (Coastal Economic Zone) with proximity to ports and will give boost to the EXIM trade for food processing sector.



FDI IN FOOD PROCESSING MAY CROSS $1 BILLION IN NEXT 2 YEARS

Foreign direct investment in the food processing sector is expected to cross $1 billion in the next two years, helped by reforms in FDI space and streamlining of FSSAI regulations. Highlighting achievements of two years of the NDA government, ministry has permitted development of 17 new food parks across the country and is making efforts to operationalise all 42 parks by 2019 that will help double processing level of fruits and vegetables to 20 per cent.

'WATLY' - THE MACHINE THAT USES THE SUN TO PURIFY WATER

MAY 2016- Imagine a machine that can turn contaminated water from a river, ocean or even sewage into drinking water, while at the same time generating enough electricity to power itself with surplus, and connecting everywhere within a kilometre radius to Wi-Fi. It sounds too good to be true, but Marco Attisani has created just that. Watly is a solar-powered water purification machine that can service a community of up to 3,000 people. The project is designed to solve three major weaknesses in infrastructure all at once: access to water, electricity and internet. Across the world, 783 million people do not have access to clean water, 1.2 billion lack access to electricity, and 4.2 billion are still without internet access.



THE FIRST 20 SMART CITIES TO BE FUNDED IN FISCAL YEAR 2016

FEB 2016- The Indian government announced the list of first 20 smart cities on 22nd January 2016. The selection of the first twenty smart cities above came through a rigorous process of evaluation of panel of experts , including World Bank,London school of economics and National Institute of Urban affairs. The selection was made on 2 stages and based on: 1) Existing public service levels serving the population of the city. 2) Institutional system and capabilities. 3) Self sustenance and 4) Past track record – execution of funds in previous government projects for urban development.
