Italy India Collaborative Industrial Research and Development Program

The Italian Trade Agency is proud to reveal the Italy India collaborative industrial research and development program.

This is a joint research grant program for industry lead research in the fields of advanced materials, smart manufacturing, technologies for cultural heritage and water technologies funded by The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, of the Italian Republic, in partnership with the Department of Science & Technology (DST) Government of India (the Indian side of the project is managed by GITA- Global Innovation and Technology Alliance).

The growth rate of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at constant market prices in first quarter (AprilJune)
(Q1) of 2017-18 was 5.7 per cent as compared to 7.9 per cent in the corresponding period
of previous year. i

The growth of Gross Value Added (GVA) at constant basic prices for Q1 of 2017-18 was 5.6 per
cent as compared to 7.6 per cent in the corresponding period of previous year. At the sectoral
level, agriculture, industry and services sectors GVA grew at the rate of 2.3 per cent, 1.6 per cent
and 8.7 per cent respectively in Q1 of 2017-18.

FSSAI ISSUES NEW RULES FOR ENSURING QUALITY IMPORTS

India’s food regulator issued new rules for importing products, seeking to address concerns over the entry of sub-standard items and simplify the process by setting shelf-life norms and relaxing labelling guidelines. No food article will be allowed unless it has 60% of its shelf life remaining when it is cleared from customs, according to the new rules. Companies must register with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade and possess a valid import-export code, apart from an FBO licence to import food. The Food Safety and Standards (Import) Regulations, 2016, will come into force when they are notified by publication in the Official Gazette.

REVIEW OF FDI POLICY ON CONSTRUCTION DEVELOPMENT SECTOR

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, approvesl for amending the existing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy on the ‘Construction Development Sector’ in line with the Budget announcement of the Government. The amendments in the relevant paragraphs of the extant FDI policy as contained in the Consolidated FDI Policy Circular 2014 are as follows

INDIA AND ITALY SIGN AN MOU: COOPERATION IN AGRICULTURE AND PHYTOSANITARY ISSUES

Dec 2017 – Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Shri Radha Mohan Singh welcomed the visiting delegates led by Shri H.E Maurizio Martina, Italian Minister for Agriculture Food and Forestry Policies. The two Ministers signed a new MoU for cooperation in Agriculture and Phytosanitary issues that will replace the one signed in 2008. The MOU provides a good framework for cooperation in this field.

ROAD MINISTER TO PROMOTE NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN HIGHWAY PROJECTS

OCT 2017- The road ministry today said it has decided to implement a ‘Value Engineering Programme’ to promote new technologies and material in highway projects.

“The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has decided to implement a ‘Value Engineering Programme’ to promote the use of new technologies, materials and equipment in highways projects executed either under PPP mode or public funding mode,” an official statement said.

SMART CITY CONTRACTS TO SHOW RESULTS BY JUNE 2018

OCT 2017- Contracts already awarded for smart cities will bear visible results by June 2018, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Thursday.

Speaking at the 33rd India Economic Summit, being jointly organised by the World Economic Forum and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Puri said, “Hundreds of thousands of crores worth of contracts have already been awarded and work is in full swing”.

GOVT. PLANS NATIONAL INVESTMENT GRID TO MAP BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES ACROSS COUNTRY

The idea is that this may encourage private investment, which has been a laggard. The proposed grid will have details of upcoming projects as well as those that are underway besides land available with the Centre, states, their agencies and public sector undertakings. “Such a grid will place investment opportunities in terms of projects upfront and make it easier for investors to access and explore,” said an official of the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), which is discussing the idea with states as part of the Invest India programme.

 

RAILWAYS WILL SOON INVITE BIDS FOR MORDERNISATION OF 400 STATIONS

The railways will soon invite bids for modernisation of 400 stations, opening up more avenues for private investment in infrastructure. The government has also set up the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and is in touch with global sovereign and pension funds to become partners in facilitating greater private investment.
